I'm doing research for a presentation I'm giving in March of 09 on plagiarism--its causes and how teachers might prevent it. If you can add anything at all to the discussion, I would love that. I'm interested in a few details of who you are: gender, age, position (student, teacher, interested party). I'd like to know such things as whether you have ever personally plagiarized and, if so, why you did it and whether anything might have prevented you from doing it (fear of being caught, having more time, feeling that you could talk to the teacher about your pressure or fears, etc). If you're a teacher, how much plagiarism have you uncovered, how much do you think you miss, what have you done to try to head off plagiarism before it happens, how have you dealt with it, have you seen more or less plagiarism in the past few years than before, or anything else you'd like to share.
I will be doing more traditional research as well, but I hope that this blog will give people a place to feel comfortable talking about this issue. I promise to check in several times a week to comment, keep track, and see how things are going. Thanks again!
